Deliveries to Lutsel K'e, including the Government of the Northwest Territories fuel shipment, were finished before the incident took place, said Nathan Graham, chief corporate officer of the Inuvialuit Corporate Group.

In the statement sent to News/North, Graham said no injuries had been reported and there were no signs of fuel in the water.

"We are working as quickly as possible to complete the remaining deliveries and will be providing updates as they become available," Graham said.

"Our primary focus right now is securing the tug and barges and escorting them back to Hay River for repairs, and there is currently an NTCL emergency response team in place to direct and co-ordinate this operation."

Both Transport Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard were notified and an investigation will take place.

An interview request with NTCL was not granted by press time.
