HAY RIVER
Four firearms stolen in Hay River in April have been recovered near High Level.

The RCMP in the Alberta town discovered the weapons during a traffic stop on July 31 in an unrelated investigation, according to an Aug. 1 news release from the Hay River RCMP.

They were in the possession of three people from Alberta, Shawn Karl Brown, 26, of Stony Plain, Wayne Darrel Brown, 24, also of Stony Plain, and Cheyanne Tannis Huber, 23, of Edmonton.

The four firearms were stolen from Monster Recreational Products in Hay River on April 27.

"During the April 27th incident, unknown persons broke into Monster Recreational and stole five firearms," the RCMP news release stated. "The investigation into the break and enter and the whereabouts of the remaining firearm is ongoing."

RCMP Const. Matt Halstead, a media relations officer with the Hay River detachment, told News/North that three shotguns and a .22-calibre semi-automatic rifle were recovered.

"The business had the serial numbers and they were still on the guns when they were recovered," he said when asked how the firearms were identified.

That leaves a .22-calibre rifle still unaccounted for as a result of the break-in.

It is unclear how the weapons ended up with the Edmonton area residents.

Halstead said it has not been determined whether the accused were involved in the Hay River break-in or whether they came into possession of the guns after the break-in.

The trio of suspects face numerous offences, including possession of the stolen firearms, possession of marijuana under 30 grams and charges related to explosives.
