The RCMP were still looking for suspects and guns that were stolen after a handful of cabins were broken into near Swan Lake.

Sgt. Lorne Morrison confirmed that a hunting rifle and a shotgun had been stolen, along with a other personal items, from cabins at Swan Lake sometime between June 12 and 18. While the RCMP haven't identified any suspects, he said they are following up on several leads.

"Obviously it's a major concern," he said of the gun thefts.

So far only two people have come forward to the RCMP regarding break-ins, but it is believed that several other cabins were targeted.

Following the theft Morrison issued a public statement on Facebook urging cabin owners not to leave their guns on the land, even if they are properly stored.

The RCMP are also trying to track down those who are responsible for thousands of dollars worth of property damage in town at the end of last month. Morrison would not say whether or not the RCMP believed the incidents of vandalism in town were related.

He said police have obtained video footage from several of the business that were vandalized and they are currently reviewing it.

Speaking to Kivalliq News the day after the hamlet council meeting, Morrison said more incidents of vandalism had been reported since then.

"Most of the stuff that's happened in the last few weeks has been mindless vandalism," he said.

Morrison asked anyone with information regarding any of the criminal incidents to contact RCMP.
