The championships ran from June 1 to 3 and brought athletes from Fort Providence, Kakisa, Fort Liard, Fort Simpson and Wrigley together to compete against each other as well as athletes from elsewhere in the territory.

At the end of the day, Wrigley's Angel Moses took home a first-place ribbon for girls 12 to 13 softball throw, while Charles Sellars scored second place for mens 20 to 34 high jump.

Fort Liard's Kali Norn took home second place for girls 16 to 17 javelin throw.

Fort Providence's Mackenzie Neyelle won second place for girls seven-and-under standing long jump, while Beth Hudson won second in womens 20 to 34 shot put and third in the 100-metre dash.

William Magno took second place for mens 20 to 34 800-metre dash and third in the 100-metre.

Andre Bolduc won second for men 20 to 34 discus throw and third for shot put.

Fort Simpson's Seth Okrainec-Cli won first place in boys 8-9 standing long jump while Amaria Tanche-Hanna took third for girls eight-to-nine standing long jump. In the adult class, Madison Pilling won four second-place ribbons for 200- and 400-metre dashes, triple jump and javelin throw in the women 20-34 class, and Bompas Elementary School principal Kelley Andrews-Klein defended her reputation as a

champion thrower by scoring two first-place ribbons in womens 35 to 99 shot put and discus throw.

Final results for all events listed up to six places, each of which received a ribbon.

Andrews-Klein said Bompas Elementary School took 25 children to the tournament.

"Our kids did very well. They really gave it their all," she said.

"They were well-behaved and good representatives of our school."

Okrainec-Cli, who also received a sportsmanship ribbon, said he enjoyed ball throw the most and hopes to go on to other aspects of the throwing competitions.

"Next year, I want to do discus and shot put as well," he said.

The Class 4 student also competed in the 400-metre, which he said was tough. However, the competition didn't daunt him and he said he plans to try his luck again next year.

As for ball throw, Okrainec-Cli said he put effort into throwing as hard as he could.

"It's fun to do," he said.
