Despite a healthy wind and the threat of rain, players tee'd off at 10 a.m. and ended the day with burgers at the clubhouse.
The tournament took the form of a friendly competition between teammates, with two people per team.
Golfer Tanya Hurst said she was glad to see so many people come out to play. As for the course, she said the grass is looking good for this time of year.
"The course is quite green from the rain we've had - and hopefully we'll get more," Hurst said.
"It's great for the first tournament of the year."
Hurst said her team was not keeping a formal score but rather was just playing a friendly game.
On the other side of the course, Val Gendron and Madison Pilling paired off against Roger Pilling and first-time golfer Morgan Lirette. Despite being a rookie, Lirette was in the lead as the quartet entered their second hour of the game.
Gendron said she is happy with the way the golf course looks, adding the green was good to play on.
As for the weather, Gendron said she didn't mind the wind.
"It adds distance (to your ball) one way, and the other way you just use a different club," she said.
Clubhouse open for season
On the heels of its opening-day tournament, Seven Spruce Golf Course announced it has hired Katelyn Harold and Shelagh Byatt to run the clubhouse.
Meanwhile, Kevin Menicoche will take care of the greens for the summer.
The clubhouse is open at 4 p.m. on weekdays, 3 p.m. Friday and noon on weekends, while closing hours vary.
The next tournament is expected to kick off June 4 in celebration of Tourism Week.
