NAUJAAT
The 3055 Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) Naujaat topped off what has been a banner season by being named the top cadet corps in Nunavut earlier this month in Naujaat.

The announcement was made in Naujaat by Lt.Col. Michele Claveau and Chief Warrant Officer James Lemay.

The 3055 RCACC Naujaat's commanding officer, Capt. Lloyd Francis, said the announcement came as a complete surprise.

He said the 3055 was recognized for its efforts in expanding the Naujaat cadet corps, and for the number of activities it participated in at the local level.

"I had no idea this was coming, so it was, definitely, a very pleasant surprise," said Francis.

"That's a huge honour for us, to be named the best corps in Nunavut for this year.

"The kids were very excited about the announcement, of course, and they gave a loud cheer when they heard it.

"It was nice to see the corps recognized."

Lt.-Col. Claveau was the reviewing officer for the Naujaat corps' final parade of the season.

In addition to making the announcement, she passed out a number of awards to the cadets, made a speech and unveiled yet another surprise for Capt. Francis.

"She presented me with a commanding officer's coin to recognize me for the work I've been doing with the cadets here in Naujaat," said Francis.

"It's a special coin they present to people who they feel are going above and beyond in the cadet program.

"That was also a big surprise to me.

"Hopefully, we'll be at the new high school in the coming year, which is just an absolutely beautiful building, so I'm really looking forward to that."
