First Air is making more changes and partnership agreements that will see Coral Harbour taken off the flight schedule and Cape Dorset gain one scheduled flight into the community.

"All our routes are continuously being assessed on economic performance. From time to time that leads to network adjustments," stated Bert van der Stege, vice-president commercial.

"With the extra frequency from Iqaluit to Cape Dorset, we provide our passengers and cargo customers with more choice and improved connections to the southern gateways of Ottawa and Montreal."

The extra non-stop flight between Iqaluit and Cape Dorset is scheduled for Wednesdays beginning July 13.

Meanwhile, flights to Coral Harbour will be discontinued July 14, with service to the community picked up by Calm Air in a codeshare agreement.

"This route is no longer economically viable," stated van der Stege.

"Instead, a more efficient way for us is to codeshare on the existing services operated by Calm Air."

Calm Air, in partnership with First Air, serves Coral Harbour 12 times a week to Rankin Inlet, where there are connections to Iqaluit, Yellowknife and Winnipeg, stated the news release.
