The Arctic Energy and Emerging Technology Conference and Tradeshow, the new name for the revamped Inuvik Petroleum Show, will take place from June 13 to 15.

"It's aimed at everyone. People who play a role in energy will find it really interesting," said Vicky Gregoire-Tremblay, the organizer and economic development and tourism manager for the Town of Inuvik, adding it's a good way for industry and residents to give direction to government agencies who are crafting energy policies.

Opportunities for businesses

"It's a great opportunity for businesses to show what they can offer, and for just regular people with homes to see what is available."

Already, Gregoire-Tremblay said there are 80 people registered to attend sessions ranging from resource development and exploration to renewable energy and conservation.

She was pleased with the diverse subjects that will be on offer for attendees and was keen to announce a deal made with the Inuvik Chamber of Commerce to give Beaufort Delta businesses a 40 per cent break on the fee to be part of the tradeshow.

"We're really looking forward to it," she said.

"We have a variety of panelists and speakers coming who can represent all the different aspects of the energy industry. We have some very interesting people."

So far, that list includes a keynote addresses by Elizabeth McDonald, the president and CEO of the Canadian Energy Efficiency Alliance, and by Christopher Henderson, the president of Lumos Energy.

Comedian scheduled to perform

In terms of entertainment, comedian Adam Growe will be performing at an evening event June 15.

According to a news release from the town, Growe has been performing professionally for more than two decades, including as the celebrated host of Cash Cab for nine seasons, as well as stand-up appearances on Just for Laughs, Comedy Now! and Comedy Central's Premium Blend in the United States.

The conference is also moving towards a more ecological tone, trying to minimize its footprint in terms of waste.

"It's interesting for people in Inuvik," Gregoire-Tremblay said.

"I think they're aware of the changes in the energy sector and are curious about what's happening now."
