A February RCMP report from Fort Simpson's G-Division shows 13 impaired driving calls in January and February.

The report was delivered to the village on March 31.

In all, the month of February included 62 calls for service. Six of those were complaints of impaired drivers, according to the report.

The report, prepared by Sgt. Chris Woodman, further notes "an ongoing issue of substance abuse in the community that continues to plague police and community resources."

Out of the six impaired driving complaints, one resulted in charges. Additionally, during routine traffic enforcement, RCMP arrested a driver for possessing marijuana. The driver was given a 24-hour suspension due to drug intoxication.

Sharon Allen, who runs programming for Mothers Against Drunk Driving in the Northwest Territories, was pleased with the number of reports.
