Valentine's Day punctured by two stabbings
Police seeking suspect in one incident

Yellowknife RCMP are investigating two Valentines Day stabbings - one which sent a female victim to hospital.

RCMP are investigating after a man was stabbed while trying to break up an altercation outside the Shell gas station on Range Lake Road Sunday. - NNSL file photo

The first occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday, when RCMP were notified a man had been stabbed outside the Shell gas station on Range Lake Road while attempting to break up a fight between two other men. The victim was able to exit the fight and was not seriously injured.

Police are seeking a male suspect with an average build wearing a grey and black plaid jacket between five feet ten inches and six feet tall. Video surveillance will be used to assist with the investigation.

The second incident occurred at Fort Gary Apartments on Gitzel Street around 7:15 p.m. Police were called to the residence after a stabbing was reported. When they arrived, a woman suffering from an apparent stab wound was located. The suspect, another adult female, had left the apartment before police arrived.

The victim was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital by emergency medical services. According to an RCMP press release, the victim and suspect were known to each other and the identity of the suspect is known to police. The investigation is on-going and charges have not be laid.

The public is reminded not to get involved in violent altercations.

"Members of the public who witness a fight in progress or other violent incident are cautioned against placing themselves at risk and are encouraged to call police as soon as possible,"

the release states.
