Somebody in Quebec who had the exact same numbers will also receive $500,000, said Marantz.

The winning numbers are: 2, 10, 14, 32, 36, 43 and 44.

Marantz said she cannot divulge where the ticket was sold until the winner comes forward and the prize-claim procedure is followed. She added that there is no tax on lottery wins in Canada so the holder of the winning ticket will literally be $500,000 richer.

Syed Shah, store manager of the Shell on Range Lake Road, said he hopes the winning ticket was sold at his store.

"It makes us feel wonderful when winning tickets are sold here. It gives us great satisfaction to have happy customers," he said. "It would feel wonderful, awesome if they bought the ticket here. We'd be very excited, very happy."

Shah said that he has a feeling that the winning ticket was sold at his store but just like everyone else he has no idea who has won until the winner comes forward. Shah said he just took over the store at the end of last year after moving to Yellowknife from Fort McMurray.

David Gillander, co-owner of the Reddi-Mart on 50 Street said he too has a hunch the winning ticket may have been sold at his store.

"I think the chances are pretty good that it was sold here. I'd feel really good if it was - to help make a difference in somebody's life," Gillander said. He added that a million dollar wining ticket was sold at his store three or four years ago.

"It made me feel really good that they bought it here. I would jump for joy if this latest one was also sold here."

The last winning ticket of any significant size sold in Yellowknife was a $10,000 Cash Spectacular Scratch 'N Win last month. It was sold at the Shell. The prize was won by Clarence Chartrand. According to a news release from the corporation, Chartrand scratched his ticket at home.

"I really couldn't believe my eyes," he said. "I was really surprised." Chartrand said that he plans to put his winnings in the bank for a little while and hopes to use the money to add onto his house.

The Shell store had another lottery winner just over a year ago. Stephen Hutchinson-Sharman won $250,000 in the Jan. 17, 2015 Extra lottery draw. The Western Canada Lottery Corporation stated on its website that Hutchinson-Sharman bought his $7 ticket on the day of the draw, also at the Shell store. Hutchinson-Sharman stated at the time that he was going to buy his first new car and the rest he intends to invest.
