NAUJAAT
A full compliment of cadets and special guests enjoyed some early holiday cheer when the 3055 Naujaat Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps (RCACC) hosted its annual Christmas Mess Dinner at Tusarvik School in Naujaat on Nov. 29.

A total of 50 cadets were present at the event, as well as 14 staff members and seven special guests.

3055 Corps Commander Capt. Lloyd Francis said the volunteers did an incredible job preparing the meal, with the turkey dinner being absolutely delicious.

He said the dinner was made even more special with the 3055 Naujaat RCACC welcoming its first two official corps elders into the fold.

"We are very excited to have Alice Nanorak and Susan Mablik volunteer to be our corps elders," said Francis. "The elderin-corps idea was started by the 3019 Rankin Inlet RCACC and we have now also adopted it. The elders will come out to special events and act as role models to the corps.

"It helps to add Inuit culture to the cadet program so our youth have another place to learn about traditions, and it also helps to recognize the elders importance to the community."

Francis said he was very proud of the fact every cadet except for three, who were away at a wrestling event, attended the annual dinner.

He said the 3055 corps was also quite proud to have a number of special guests in attendance, including Tusarvik School principal Aubrey Bolt.

"The dinner was a great success, and it was made quite significant by the addition of the two elders to our corps.

"We saw the success Rankin was having with its elders, so we wanted to try it in our corps and having them both at our Christmas dinner was a great start.

"We're really looking forward to having them participate in corps activities in the new year.

"Our corps owes a big thank you to everyone who helped make the Christmas dinner such a success, and to Tusarvik School as well for doing so much to help support our program."
