Council delves into city budget

City council will delve into the details of the 2016 draft budget again tonight at a meeting in the lower boardroom of city hall.

Council heard input from the public Monday evening regarding the $81.5-million spending plan. On Tuesday, council began sifting through the budget as part of the process to approve the document. The meeting tonight begins at 5:30 p.m.

If required, council may meet again Thursday evening at the same time and location.

Drugs seized from School Draw home

A search warrant executed by RCMP at a home on School Draw Avenue on Monday evening yielded about 57 grams of crack cocaine and two grams of marijuana, according to a news release.

Police stated that three people were arrested at the home and the investigation is ongoing.

The names of the three were not released.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Elenore Sturko stated in an e-mail that more information about the seizure would be released today.

RCMP investigating hotel assault

Police are investigating an assault which took place at a city hotel early Saturday morning. Const. Elenore Sturko, spokesperson for Yellowknife RCMP, stated in an e-mail officers are investigating an assault at the Day's Inn - 4401 50 Avenue - which took place around 6 a.m. on Dec. 5.

No further information was released as of Monday.

Road check results in two 24-hour suspensions

A check stop for drunk drivers on Franklin Avenue near Avens Court was performed by RCMP on the evening of Nov. 28 and early Nov. 29.

Police reported that 70 vehicles were checked and two 24-hour suspensions were issued.

"We will be enhancing our traffic enforcement, especially during the holiday season," said Const. Elenore Sturko.

Young hunters

Arviat

A group of participants in the Arviat Young Hunters program will be heading out on the land from Dec. 1320 on a wolfhunting trip.

Each of the young hunters will be trying to land their first wolf.

The John Arnalukjuak High School (JAHS) Drama Club will be performing Norm Foster's Dear Santa at the JAHS theatre on Dec. 16 and 17.

Baker Lake

The Winnipeg Art Gallery's Gallery Shop is currently presenting a new exhibit of more than 15 works by one of Baker Lake's mostcelebrated artists, Annie Taipana.

The exhibit is running at the gallery from Nov. 20 until Dec. 31.

The show is free and all works are available for purchase.
