Guy Davis, a blues musician based in New York, is set to hit the stage in Fort Simpson at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 19 at Bompas Elementary School.
Davis' Fort Simpson stop comes as the final show in a five-community tour of the territory. Other stops include Inuvik, Norman Wells, Hay River and Yellowknife.
Davis was not available for comment due to a tight schedule but manager Thom Wolke said he is looking forward to the tour.
NACC executive and artistic director Marie Coderre plans to travel to Fort Simpson for the occasion. She secured Davis for the tour after liaising with his manager.
"I'm a big fan of Davis, first but since I've been in touch with his agent he's been really keen in coming right away," Coderre said.
"I think it's going to be an exciting experience for him, and we're very thrilled to have international musicians coming to the communities because they get to see something very different and life-changing."
Davis has been to Yellowknife in the past and has also been to Northern places around the world, including Greenland.
"His music will touch a lot of people. Everybody loves the blues," Coderre said.
Davis' show will be the second of four shows NACC brings to Fort Simpson. Coderre said reaching smaller communities has become a priority for the organization, which is starting to build its programs outside Yellowknife.
"Every time we step into schools, we see kids coming to us and being into music but sometimes they don't have the resources to learn it. I think one of our roles is to listen, support and see what we can do to get them doing music," she said, adding Davis' trip to Fort Simpson will include a school visit.
"The need is there. It's very important for us to come back (to the communities)."
