Police were called to the bank at the corner of 50 Avenue and 49 Street at about 10:55 a.m.

According to an RCMP news release, police were told a female entered the bank and demanded cash, claiming to be armed with a gun.

When money was handed over, she fled on foot. RCMP Const. Elenore Sturko stated in an e-mail that about $700 was taken and that some of the money has been recovered.

Police appeared to be searching for someone downtown in the morning.

At the corner of 51 Avenue and 50 Street, three RCMP vehicles converged at about 11:30 a.m. and officers searched a male and female. They were let go after being searched.

It wasn't immediately clear if the search was related to the robbery, although Sturko stated in an e-mail increased police activity downtown was likely part of the investigation.

Police say the suspect was located at about 11:55 a.m. in the 5100 block of 50 Street.

The suspect did not have a firearm when arrested, according to the news release.

Police stated that charges are pending but had not yet been laid.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released. Sturko said no other suspects were sought.

A request for comment at the local branch was redirected to a Calgary-based TD spokesperson who did not immediately respond.

No one could be seen inside the bank just before 2 p.m. and a sign told customers at the entrances that the location was temporarily closed due to an "emergency situation."
