Drug-related charges are pending against five people after arrests were made in separate locations Tuesday, RCMP say.
Three of the five were arrested as police carried out a search warrant at a 50 Street motel in the evening, according to a police news release. The search found an undisclosed amount of crack cocaine prepared for sale as well as cash.
As part of the same investigation, police also arrested two others in the downtown area. According to police, more prepackaged crack cocaine was located.
RCMP spokeswoman Const. Elenore Sturko stated in the news release that charges are pending against all five arrested.
The names have not been released as the charges were not laid as of press time.
The arrests come the same week as another sizable crack cocaine seizure by police, though Sturko could not say whether the busts are related.
A vehicle stopped on Highway 3 en route to the city Monday was found to have more than 1,100 individually wrapped rocks of crack cocaine.
Sturko told Yellowknifer an investigation led police to the vehicle. Two men are facing charges related to the seizure.
"Our effort against drug trafficking in Yellowknife is ongoing, so we should reasonably expect to see the continuous reporting of the success that we're having," Sturko said about the recently announced drug busts.
