Minister approves Snap Lake changes

Environment and Natural Resources Minister Michael Miltenberger approved changes to the De Beers Snap Lake diamond mine water licence Sept. 10. The changes, recommended for approval by the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board after an environmental review, allow for a higher level of total dissolved solids to be released into Snap Lake. The board ruled the increase would likely change the taste of the water but not have significant environmental effects. The minister's approval was the final step in the process.
