A 25-year-old man was arrested and later charged with second-degree murder in Rankin Inlet last week.

RCMP and Emergency Medical Services responded to a report of a male in medical distress at approximately 7 a.m. Thursday, July 30.

According to an RCMP news release, a 26-year-old man later succumbed to his injuries.

RCMP arrived at the scene and immediately arrested the 25-year old. He was charged with second-degree murder July 31.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit arrived in the afternoon of the homicide to investigate. A house on Ayaruaq Street was cordoned off with crime-scene tape, and remained that way throughout the next day.

The accused was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at the Nunavut Court of Justice in Iqaluit on Aug. 11.

The Rankin Inlet RCMP, V Division Major Crime Unit, and RCMP Forensic Identification continue to work with the Office of the Coroner as the investigation continues, according to the news release.
