Yellowknife Real Estate Board president Shane Clark said that as of Monday, there are four to five more new listings and expects the market to be very active over the next 4 to 6 weeks.

"Month by month stats from March to August show very comparable numbers in sales from 2014 to 2015, with more sales this year than last," he said. "It's an active market right now, with activity noticeably picking up after the August long weekend and (it's) looking to increase this month as more new residents are arriving into town."

Clark said there are currently fewer than 90 properties for sale, through his organization's multiple listing service. By comparison, last year at this time there were approximately 75 properties for sale.

According to the listing service, there were 20 sales during the month of August.

This year, the service showed six confirmed sales in the first week of August, with at least three more that have confirmed accepted offers for purchase over the weekend.

However, Clark said his numbers did not include private sales or new construction developments that are exclusive to one agency.

Notably, Clark said July is very consistently one the city's least active months of the year when it comes to real estate.

"It's great to know Northerners have an appreciation for the outdoors and that summer is very important to so many," he said.

At Best Movers, owner and general manager Cynthia Moyo told Yellowknifer that business has really picked up compared to last year.

"We've been busy with the local moves and people moving up (here)," she said. "Last year, it was a mix of people getting in and out."
