An attempt to hide bottles of booze in boxes of powder laundry soap to sneak them into Gameti didn't wash.

In a July 27 news release, RCMP stated officers seized 15 375-millilitre bottles of vodka at the community's airport on the afternoon of July 24.

Later that day, RCMP intercepted a "suspicious package" delivered to the community by mail. The news release didn't specify why the package was suspicious.

Inside the package the officer found 15 more 375-millilitre bottles of vodka hidden in a package for a coffee machine.

Two adults in the community were fined under sections of the NWT Liquor Act, police stated.

Gameti is one of the communities in the territory where possession of alcohol is prohibited and enforcing the ban is considered a key enforcement priority for Gameti RCMP.
