RCMP Const. Elenore Sturko stated in a news release that the victim was located by emergency medical personnel in the alley between 50 and 51 streets. He was found directly behind the Yellowknifer building.

Two ambulances were in the area at the time after they had responded to a medical call at a unit in the Norseman apartment building on 52 Avenue.

A witness reported that after one ambulance left with a patient from the apartment building, people ran up to the second ambulance and waived down the paramedics to report someone was seriously hurt in the alley and bleeding profusely.

Officers determined the injured person was the victim of an assault and a suspect was located in the area and arrested, Sturko stated. The suspect was taken into custody and was to appear in court yesterday.

A 40-year-old Yellowknife man has been charged with aggravated assault. He'll appear in court July 14.

Police have not given any details on the victim's injuries nor updated the man's condition. Anyone who saw what happened is asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
