Investing in KIA

Rankin Inlet

Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNOR) Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced CanNor is investing $39,580 into the Kivalliq Inuit Association's (KIA) fiveyear strategic plan.

The announcement was made on May 21.

The KIA will also contribute $31,942.

The goal is for the KIA to update its plan for 20152020, in order to improve its ability to be proactive in responding to social and economic challenges, while reaffirming the commitment to resource development that will benefit Inuit and minimally impact the environment.

CanNor is also investing $46,400 into the Nunavut Economic Developers Association (NEDA) to conduct two workshops in Gjoa Haven and Pond Inlet.

The workshops are being held to support the communities in maximizing benefits from major development opportunities.

The funding provides participants with the training and information needed to develop stronger economic development plans and goals.

NEDA's fourday workshop will help economic development officers work with their communities to analyze the impacts of large-scale development and create a plan to maximize the benefits from those impacts.
