B.C. man stands accused in thefts
Man charged with break-in at downtown grocery store and thefts from Shoppers Drug Mart and Canadian Tire

A man is charged with several offences after RCMP responded to a number of burglaries and thefts from two stores earlier this month.

Scott Banks, 35, of B.C. faces a charge of break and enter to a business and three counts of theft under $5,000.

RCMP state in a news release that Banks is charged after several items were removed from store shelves at Shoppers Drug Mart by a man who left without paying for them on May 9.

Then on May 13, police allege that Banks smashed a window at the downtown Independent Grocer, entered the store and stole a "significant" number of cartons of cigarettes. Police released surveillance photos of the suspect inside the store.

Later that day, RCMP received a report that someone had walked out of the Canadian Tire store with two televisions. It's alleged Banks stole one TV in the morning and another in the afternoon.

Police state that they arrested Banks but they do not say where or when he was apprehended.

Banks, who is also charged with breaching his recognizance, appeared in court on Wednesday.
