Jamie Moosenose likes to keep busy. That's why the Grade 12 student at Ehtseo Ayha School in Deline spends so much of his time helping others.

"It's good to volunteer so you're not always just staying home watching TV," he said.
"If you keep on volunteering, your name will go around town saying you're a good volunteer."
Moosenose divides his time between helping out at the school and assisting local residents. Right now, he's part of a team raising money for the school's graduation ceremony by helping with the canteen at the arena during special events, as well as volunteering to help with the community's upcoming Deline Spring Carnival.
While he said he enjoys helping out with community activities, Moosenose especially loves being out on the land.
He can often be found helping local resident Harry Beyonnie with everything from snow shoveling to ice fishing.
"I was walking down to my house from school and he stopped beside me one day and asked if I wanted to work outside his house," Moosenose said.
"Since then, we started going out on the land."
Moosenose spends time in
the spring helping Beyonnie
clear snow from his cabin. He also helps to chop wood throughout the year.
In exchange, Moosenose is able to accompany Beyonnie during goose hunting and other trips.
He said goose hunting is one of his favourite activities.
"You have to be patient and you have to kind of be quiet, too," he said.
"It's pretty peaceful. That's one of the reasons I like going out."
When he's not volunteering his time, Moosenose said he enjoys many of the classes he's taking in school this year.
He said cooking class is one of the highlights of his day.
"Every morning that's my first class. I always like to make smoothies in the morning," he said.
"I like eating."
He said he also enjoys his job preparation class, which trains students in resume writing and other employment skills.
Moosenose said while he isn't sure what career he might choose, he knows exactly where his ideal job would take place.
"I work better out on the land," he said.
