NUNAVUT
Public consultations by the legislative assembly's Special Committee to Review the Education Act will take place in several Nunavut communities beginning April 20.

The consultations will focus on the legislation which guides the implementation and administration of Nunavut's education system, the Education Act.

Following the tour, the committee will invite witnesses to appear before the committee May 13 and 14 to discuss key issues raised throughout the review process, according to a press release.

"I look forward to hearing the views and opinions of Nunavummiut on how effectively Nunavut's Education Act guides the delivery of Nunavut's education system. The input that we receive from individuals and organizations will assist the Special Committee in developing its final report, including recommendations for potential amendments to the legislation," said chairperson Iqaluit-Tasiluk MLA George Hickes.

A detailed schedule for these appearances, which will be held in legislative assembly and televised live across Nunavut, will be issued at a later date.

The special committee will be in Baker Lake April 20, in Kugluktuk April 21, in Pond Inlet May 11 and in Iqaluit May 12. Details on times and venues will follow at a later date.

Members of the special committee with Hickes are co-chairperson Baker Lake MLA Simeon Mikkungwak, Iqaluit-Niaqunnguu MLA Pat Angnakak, Education Minister Paul Quassa and Arviat South MLA Joe Savikataaq.
