RCMP issue warning after rash of break-ins
A series of break-ins over the past several weeks has police asking residents to report suspicious activity.
According to an RCMP news release, a man has been knocking on doors throughout the city during the day offering snow removal services. If nobody answers, the man kicks in the door and commits theft.
Residents have provided the police with a description of the suspect. He is described to be an aboriginal male in his early 30s, usually clad in black and carrying a backpack or duffel bag.

Council looking for a spot for kennel
Jeff Humble, director of planning and development, said city staff aim to find a home for the dog mushing community sometime within the lifetime of the current government. He said the issue is subject to other parts of Kam Lake amendments being approved but they are "moving along as quickly as possible."

Special Olympians hit the podium
Two of the city's Special Olympians had themselves a fine weekend at the Special Olympics Alberta Winter Games this past weekend.
Chris Strus and Cynthia Simmons represented the NWT in Grande Prairie, Alta., in speedskating and had several podium finishes. Strus was a quadruple bronze medalist in his four races in male division 3 while Simmons was the class of female division 1, winning four gold medals.
Both skaters will be competing this weekend at the NWT Speed Skating Championships at the Multiplex.

City seeks Wildcat Cafe operator
The city is looking for somebody to run the historic Wildcat Cafe this summer.
The Old Town eatery has been operated by chef Luke Wood for the past two seasons under a two year contract.
Details on the operator agreement are available on the city website, under bidding opportunities.
Bids will be accepted up until Mar. 13 at 1:30 p.m.

School wins national innovation award
The Canadian Education Association awarded East Three Secondary School with the Ken Spencer Award for Innovation in Teaching and Learning award for the school's gardening program.
Students grew, harvested, processed, prepared and consumed more than $1,000 worth of produce. Food grown has been used in a healthy lunch program and in a fundraiser featuring wild and local foods such as char, muskox and reindeer.
The association said the program represents a model for other Northern schools wishing to increase student engagement while improving attendance, and nutrition.
Stolen snowmobile in crash
A man was arrested for dangerous operation of a vehicle and possession of stolen property when the snowmobile he was operating collided with a truck.
Police were called to the scene of a collision on Navy Road on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. and found a stolen snowmobile had hit a truck after entering the roadway from an unnamed trail, causing damage to both vehicles.
The driver of the snowmobile was taken to hospital with minor injuries and police consider speed and alcohol factors in the accident.
The driver was also charged with failing to provide a breath sample and is to appear in court at a later date.
Tourism workshop offered
NWT Tourism is hosting a workshop today at the Midnight Sun Recreation Complex to help tourism operators capitalize on opportunities during the coming season.
The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the second-floor community lounge and will focus on how to develop successful tourism packages for potential clients, how to use festivals and larger community events to draw tourists to the region and how to develop regional itineraries.
On Feb. 25, NWT Tourism held a three-hour workshop on how to leverage the Spectacular NWT brand and how to develop a five-year marketing strategy.
GNWT looks at roads
The government is working on developing methods to lessen the effect climate change is having on Northern roads.
The project aims at developing strategies through collaboration between those in the industry, engineers and scientists.
"Changes in ice conditions affect our winter roads, and low water conditions create challenges for ferry and community marine resupply operations," said Transportation Minister Tom Beaulieu at the legislature Tuesday.
