New owners Dinku Tadesse, Elias Baye and Eline Baye, opened the restaurant to bring a new experience to the community.

"We also wanted to bring something new to Yellowknife, traditional Ethiopian and East African food," Tadesse said.

Tadesse added that there's also a need downtown for late-night dining, which he said Zehabesha will fill.

Patrons can taste the Ethiopian dishes at traditional tables - mosobs - where platters of wot, a slow-cooked stew of spices, vegetables and chicken, beef or lamb, are served on large injeras, a kind of flatbread - Ethiopia's national dish.

Traditional Ethiopian vegetarian dishes are also available, as well as some curries and a large North American menu.

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, Zehabesha will also be open very late Thursday, Friday and Saturday night.
