The hamlet's detachment, assisted by Hay River traffic services and the RCMP police dog service, seized alcohol from two different vehicles on the same day. A 51-year-old man from the hamlet has been charged under the Fort Liard Liquor Restriction Regulations for possessing one 40-ounce, three 12-ounce and six 26-ounce bottles of whiskey.

A larger seizure was made in a second vehicle. A 24-year-old female and a 47-year-old male, also from Fort Liard, were charged under the community's liquor restriction regulations for transporting liquor for resale.

They were found with 14 40-ounce bottles, two 26-ounce bottles, 13 12-ounce bottles and eight one-ounce bottles of vodka. The vehicle they were travelling in has been seized under the Liquor Act.

All three individuals are scheduled to appear in territorial court in Fort Liard on June 26.

This seizure came almost a month after the Fort Liard RCMP seized 21 bottles of alcohol April 1 including 14 26-ounce bottles of vodka, six 26-ounce bottles of whiskey and one 12-ounce bottle of vodka, which were concealed in a vehicle. The suspect, a 33-year-old Fort Liard man, was stopped on Highway 7 south of the community while travelling from B.C. He is also scheduled to appear in court on June 26.

According to the Fort Liard Liquor Restriction Regulations, no person is allowed to purchase, sell or transport more liquor in one week than any three units of the following types: 1,140 ml bottle of spirits, two dozen 355 ml bottles of beer or two 750 ml bottles of wine. The restricted area the regulations apply to is a 15 km area around the community centre.

Anyone with information about these instances is asked to contact the Fort Liard RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
