Yellowknife RCMP announced fraud charges Monday, alleging one of its officers faked his overtime claims for more than a year.

Const. Nathan White has been charged with fraud under $5,000, forgery and uttering a forged document. According to court documents, the RCMP allege he fraudulently claimed more than $3,200 in overtime between Feb. 24, 2012 and Feb. 28, 2013.

Sgt. Barry Ledoux, the media relations officer for the RCMP in the Northwest Territories, said he was unable to comment as to the specifics of the allegations or when they took place, even though that information was available in court documents.

"I'm not going to get into specifics, but the RCMP is the victim," he said.

White's charges were sworn before a Justice of the Peace on April 1. The charges were not announced until Monday due to what Ledoux called "personal circumstances," adding he was unable to divulge any details as to what those are as they may be presented as evidence in court.

The initial investigation was launched on April 3, 2013, with White being placed on suspension with pay on May 29, 2013.

White is scheduled to appear in territorial court on May 13.

White has been an RCMP officer for seven years, officially entering the service on Jan. 2, 2007. All the years of White's time with the RCMP have been spent in the Northwest Territories.

White was first stationed in Tuktoyaktuk, where he served for an unknown period of time as the acting sergeant of the RCMP there.

He was later relocated to Yellowknife, although Ledoux said he was uncertain of how long White had been stationed here.
