Sana'a Michael Christensen-Blondin was killed on Saturday around 2 p.m. when a Ford F-450 drove over him at a welding shop yard on Melville Drive.

He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

Jocelyn Christensen, the boy's mother, said her son was at Paul Bros. Welding, a business owned by close family friends, because the family often spent time there with friends.

"He was with his father and surrounded by people he trusted, including the person who killed him," Christensen said.

She said she'll be following up with RCMP to determine exactly what happened.

In a news release sent Tuesday morning, RCMP said it is investigating the incident, but don't expect to lay charges against the driver.

Sgt. Marc Coulombe, Yellowknife RCMP spokesperson, said it's not a case of criminal negligence.

Police are still gathering witness statements, but Coulombe said they're having trouble determining exactly what happened.

Sana'a, who Christensen described as a "great, great soul," enjoyed hanging around the welding lot with his father, Christensen said. He was "as much a boy as you could get" and loved trucks and anything mechanical, she added.

"He was in the coolest place, surrounded by people he loved."

Sana'a has three older sisters, aged 4, 13 and 17. The family is in the process of arranging a service to be held on Saturday.

People have been bringing food and support to the family since the tragic death. An online fundraising campaign for the family has begun as well.

Christensen said anyone looking for information on the service can contact the family.
