Yellowknife RCMP stated in a news release Friday the fire department was responding to an alarm at Hudson House apartments on 48 Street, when one of the firefighters noticed a small quantity of drugs in the apartment where the alarm originated from.

After securing the scene and obtaining a search warrant, RCMP seized a "significant quantity" of cocaine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia from the apartment.

RCMP are not releasing the exact amounts of drugs seized as they say that information is part of an ongoing investigation.

Sgt. Marc Coulombe, Yellowknife RCMP spokesperson, could not confirm the cause of the fire alarm nor if RCMP accompanied firefighters to the scene.

"Something set off the alarm, it must have been some kind of smoke but they cleared it right away," Coulombe said.

He added no one was inside the apartment when first responders came to the scene. Coulombe said no charges have been laid in the incident.

"We have a subject of interest we're looking for and we're seeking to speak to that person," Coulombe said.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to call Yellowknife RCMP, or Crime Stoppers if they wish to remain anonymous.
