Snow removal

Snow removal time is here and city workers will be out at night cleaning the streets, depending on the weather, according to the city's Jan. 31 newsletter. Radio advertisements and street signs will warn residents when their streets are scheduled for snow removal, which takes place from midnight into the early morning to avoid conflicts with residents' commute to work.

The city warned that residents are responsible for moving their vehicles from the streets before scheduled snow removal to avoid having the vehicles towed at the owner's expense.

Disappointed again

Rankin Inlet/Kivalliq

The annual Powerful Peewees hockey tournament had to be postponed for the second week in a row in Rankin Inlet this past week.

The announcement was made this past Friday by Rankin recreation coordinator David Clark.

"Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions across the region, only kids from one community would have been able to come in to Rankin," said Clark.

"We tried to work something out with Calm Air to bring them in the following day, but, unfortunately, it just couldn't be done."

The Powerful Peewees tournament has been rescheduled for the weekend of Feb. 21.
