Top 10 finish for Brendan Green
Hay River's Brendan Green did the NWT proud in the men's biathlon 15km mass start event yesterday.
Green ended up finishing in ninth place, a little more than a minute back of first place. He missed two targets along the way, meaning he had to ski two penalty laps and had it not been for those two penalty laps, the result may have been a lot better.
He was scheduled to compete in the mixed relay early this morning and will also compete in the men's 4 x 7.5km relay on Saturday.

Impact agreement signed
An impact benefit agreement for the future Gahcho Kue diamond mine was signed in Dettah on Tuesday between the Yellowknives Dene First Nation, and De Beers Canada and Mountain Province Diamonds, the two companies which will operate the mine. The agreement lays out a framework for YKDFN band members to be given business, training and employment opportunities through the construction and operation of Gahcho Kue.
It ensures the YKDFN and the two companies will work together over the 11-year life of the mine, which is located 280 km northeast of Yellowknife on Chief Drygeese Territory.

Yk RCMP seeking security cameras
RCMP in Yellowknife are looking for dozens of new security cameras, according to new public works documents.
The Mounties submitted a request for bids on Friday to purchase 75 new indoor security cameras, with the option of buying a further 37 later on.
Sgt. Marc Coulombe, RCMP spokesperson, said the new cameras will likely upgrade or replace existing ones in jail cells, but could not confirm their use.

Write for a better world
Canadian non-profit organization World Literacy Canada has launched an online contest for students from Grades 5 to 8. On its website, students will find the beginning of a story, which they have to complete in 400 words or less by April 4.
The first prize winner will receive $500 and a Skype session with author Kelley Armstrong, who wrote the intro for the contest story.

Rankin Inlet
Hockey lovers in Rankin Inlet and across the Kivalliq will be in their glory this coming weekend as Rankin hosts two tournaments at the same time.
The Powerful Peewees will share the hockey spotlight with the Challenge Cup junior 'C' championship, providing three full days of almost nonstop hockey action in Rankin.
Power woes
Arviat
The Qulliq Energy Corp. asked the community of Arviat to conserve power - and residents with personal power generators were asked to use them - during a three-day period this past week when a number of electrical and mechanical issues with the generators were identified in the community.
A team from Rankin Inlet and Iqaluit was flown to Arviat to assist with the repairs.

Two teams from the Rankin Rock atoms program competed in the 2014 Munn Cup in Thompson, Man., this past weekend.
Results from the tourney were not known as of press time.

Northwestel is reminding Kivalliq residents its satellite facilities will be experiencing sun-related service degradations, as a result of the alignment of the sun with the telecommunications satellite and its ground stations from Feb. 21 through to March 7. Customers may experience noise or service degradation between 1:22 p.m. And 2:00 p.m. Central Standard Time during the Feb. 21 to March 7 period.
