Defence called two long-time friends of the MacNearneys on Thursday morning. They appeared via video conference from Happy Valley- Goose Bay, N.L., where they now live.

Robert and Juanita Green say they occasionally smoked marijuana and exchanged marijuana with the MacNearneys. Robert is the person identified in text messages to Craig asking for "green meds."

Robert testified he picked up enough weed "for a couple of joints" from Kim after the text message exchange. Defence lawyer Alison Crowe questioned him about whether or not he paid for the marijuana.

"No, I never exchanged any cash," Robert said.

"Our exchange is simply an exchange between friends."

During cross-examination, Crown lawyer Ryan Carrier asked Robert whether the marijuana he received that day was grown by the MacNearneys and whether he was offering the power drill in exchange.

Robert denied both suggestions.

Identifying himself as a marijuana "expert," Robert classified the MacNearneys' marijuana as "garbage," which "wouldn't have sold in Yellowknife."

Robert added he was giving away the cordless drill mentioned in the text to Craig, since he was moving away from Yellowknife that year.
