Yellowknife is all dressed up for the holidays.

"It was amazing this year. It seems like every year, residents and businesses make more of an effort to brighten up the city," said Mayor Mark Heyck.

Over 300 applicants participated in this year's Christmas lights competition.

For the first time, online voters decided the winner for each of six categories: best residential home (won by 151 Rivett Crescent), best mobile home (139 Jeske Crescent), best neighbourhood (Cinnamon Court), best alternative display (5009 Finlayson Drive), best commercial interior (Diavik Diamond Mines Inc.), and best commercial exterior (Adam Dental Clinic).

Adam Dental Clinic has won the award several times, and Dr. Adam told Yellowknifer in an e-mail that the clinic's well-known holiday displays all started in the early 1980s when his wife, Charlene, put out a small display, and it just grew from there.

"The boys" help keep the property decorated and tidy, he said, adding the boys who helped out this year were "Jamie, Tony, Charlie, Billy J and, as always, Robert Fabien."
