"It went really well," said chamber president Jason McEvoy, who estimated about 100 people dropped by during the three-hour mixer held at MacKay LLP on 51 Street. "It was a fantastic event."

The organization has held about half-a-dozen such mixers in 2013. The next public mixer will likely be held by spring, but before that there may be a networking event planned for members, McEvoy said.

"It's a great opportunity just to network and keep up to date on some fairly pertinent information."

In the meantime, the chamber is promoting its shop local campaign in conjunction with the City of Yellowknife, in which residents are encouraged to purchase holiday gifts from city businesses.

Following the departure of Leslie Valpy from the position of chamber executive director earlier this year, the chamber is preparing to hire a new person for the role very soon, McEvoy said.

"We'll probably be announcing the hire of our new executive director early in the new year," he said. "The start date will likely be mid-January."

January or early February will also see the release of the first edition of the chamber's new newsletter, according to McEvoy.

"We're looking at an e-format of some sort, and we're looking at potentially doing six of these a year," he said, adding a website facelift is also on the agenda for 2014. "That's a work in progress but, certainly, it's on our website right now."

The new newsletter and revamped website will feature the chamber's new logo, which was released during the president's ball earlier this winter. Designed by the chamber's first vice-president Allison Camenzuli, the logo features a stylized diamond topped with a cosmopolitan cityscape that surrounds the silhouette of a raven, whose dynamic display of feathers portray the Northern lights.
