Behchoko man missing
RCMP have been searching for a missing Behchoko man for four days with no luck.
Frank Alfred Black, 57, hasn't been seen since he left his Russell Lake cabin alone on Aug. 29. Behchoko RCMP began searching for Black on Aug. 31 using a jet boat, then aircraft on Sept. 1.
A search has turned up Black's boat that contained his belongings, as well as footprints leading from it into the woods.
The RCMP said Black has outdoors experience.
The search is ongoing, utilizing ground and air search parties.

Facelift begins
Work began this week to beautify the Pilot's Monument and make it more accessible to tourists and residents alike.
Jeff Humble, director of planning and development for the city, said the majority of the work would be completed this year and would continue next spring.
The work will include new trails to access the monument, expanding the parking lot, landscaping with native plants, a plaza and a small playground. The contractor, Arctic Farmer, was unavailable to comment on how late into the year they planned to work on the project.

Talking about libraries
The Royal Society of Canada will be holding a series of public consultations in Yellowknife on the future of the nation's libraries and archives on Friday.
The consultations, which include university professors from throughout Canada, as well as the University of Amsterdam, will hold meetings at Aurora College, the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre and the Yellowknife Public Library.
The society is making the stop in Yellowknife as part of a national consultation.

Medication recalls
Health Canada issued two medication recalls last week.
The first is for Freya-28, an oral contraceptive. According to Health Canada, a package of the medication was found to have a placebo pill in place of an active pill.
The second is for various allergy medications produced by Vita Health Products and sold under various labels, including Shoppers Drug Mart's Life brand and Loblaw's Exact brand. The recall is due to a labelling error that could lead to health problems for those with chronic lung ailments.

Juggernauts roll
Kangiqliniq/Rankin Inlet
The Juggernauts got a slice of revenge when they dumped arch-rival Team M&T 12-7 to claim the 2013 Rankin Inlet Co-ed Softball League championship in Rankin Inlet this past week.
The championship series was a thrilling affair, with the Juggernauts taking the best-of-five series three games to two.
The previous week, M&T had defeated the Juggernauts in the final game to claim the Calm Air Cup slo-pitch championship.

The Arviat Community Ecotourism Initiative is expecting at least seven guests to take part in a bear-viewing excursion this month.
Rankin remembers

Close to 100 people took part in a suicide-prevention walk to mark the 11th anniversary of the death of Terence Tootoo in Rankin Inlet this past week.
Tootoo died suddenly on Aug. 28, 2002, in Brandon, Man.
Less-than-ideal weather prevented the original walk that had been planned to go out to Nipisar Lake and back, so the participants instead walked twice around Williamson Lake.
Running for the Cure

Residents of Rankin Inlet are reminded of the CIBC's annual Run for the Cure will be held in the community on Sunday, Oct. 6.
Pet visit

Pet lovers and animal owners in Rankin Inlet and across the Kivalliq region are reminded of a veterinary clinic scheduled to be held at the Rankin Curling Club from Sept. 17 to 21.
The annual clinic will be attended by animal-health professionals from the Tuxedo Animal Hospital in Winnipeg.
Services being offered for cats and dogs this year include checkups, immunizations, deworming, advice on medical problems, dental care, tooth cleaning, spaying, neutering and other minor surgical procedures.
Appointments can be made by phoning the Nanuq Lodge in Rankin.
The organizers will also be fundraising this year in hopes of being able to purchase a badly-needed X-ray machine.
The group is hoping to find a used machine at a reasonable price.
Off to school
Arviat
A special send off was held in Arviat this past week for Grade 12 graduates Innosar Issakiark and Ramon Kaviok.
The two are attending Red River College in Winnipeg.
Issakiark is studying to become a motive power technician, while Kaviok is taking hotel/restaurant management.
