Yellowknife RCMP responded to a possible break and enter and sexual assault over the weekend in Range Lake.

An unidentified male allegedly entered a home on Rivett Crescent and sexually assaulted an adult female while she slept. The man fled on foot after the woman woke up.

The incident was reported to RCMP around 6:25 a.m. on Sunday. RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Roxanne Hudym said police haven't made any arrests yet but have identified a "person of interest" in the incident.

"In this case, there is a person with a partial description provided, which isn't definitive but lead us to some avenues of investigation to look at," she said.

In July, two sexual assaults were reported to Yellowknife RCMP, one on the McMahon Frame Lake Trail and another break and enter at Sissons Court. Both assaults also took place in the early morning hours.

Hudym said at this point, police don't see any connection to the July assaults.

RCMP haven't released any warnings to the public for the suspect at large.

"We don't have anything specific that we would be able to put out there that would raise any caution," Hudym said.

"The information we have is fairly generic at this point."

Police are asking anyone with information on the case to contact Yellowknife RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
