Tyson Ruben-Bucher has been charged with attempted murder and an arrest warrant has been issued. As of Tuesday, the police have two adults and two young people in custody with charges in relation to the stabbing incident.

According to Cpl. Barry Ledoux of the Yellowknife RCMP detachment, the names of the individuals in custody as well as the charges they face will not be made public as the investigation of the incident is ongoing.

Police are urging Ruben-Bucher to turn himself in and are also warning the public not to approach him as he is known to be violent. Police did not release a picture nor a description of Ruben-Bucher.

"I can say that the individuals involved were known to each other. We don't believe that this was a random incident in any way," said Staff Sgt. Brad Kaeding said Friday.

Pamela Murray, who lives in Fort Gary apartments, went to bed late last week, at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday morning, but wasn't in bed for long before hearing a pounding on her door.

It wasn't until later on Thursday that Murray learned that at about the time of the disruption, a man was being stabbed multiple times in another unit down the hall.

"Maybe it was around 2 a.m., somebody pounded on my apartment door and a minute or two later, they pounded on it again," said Murray, 70. "If I'd been awake, maybe I would have called the police."

Someone did call the RCMP, who showed up at about 2:26 a.m. to the first-floor of the Gitzel Street apartment complex where it was reported a man had been stabbed in the torso.

According to an RCMP press release, the victim went to a neighbour's apartment to seek help.

"There were a number of stab wounds ... throughout the man's body, basically on his torso," Kaeding said.

Emergency medical services transported the victim to Stanton Territorial Hospital. The victim remained in hospital in stable condition Friday and has been able to speak to investigators. RCMP would not confirm whether the victim was still in hospital Tuesday.

About 10 RCMP officers are involved in the investigation. The RCMP is asking anyone who has information to contact either the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

For Murray, hearing loud noises from the hallway or neighbouring apartment is nothing new.

"I've called the police more than once about noise in the hallways from that apartment, people yelling and swearing at each other," she said.
