Iqaluit's Nakasuk School had to close for one day last week as a result of vandalism.

A number of youth broke into the elementary school the evening of Oct. 23 and spent about three hours inside, according to an Iqaluit RCMP in a press release.

"The young persons located a number of fire extinguishers and discharged them in various locations inside the school causing an enormous mess," stated the RCMP press release. "The vandals also located some food items and used them as projectiles, throwing those against other parts of the school causing even more cosmetic damage."

As a result of the vandalism, the school was closed for the next day. The RCMP has since obtained video surveillance from the school and hopes to identify those responsible for the damage. The RCMP is also requesting assistance from the public to identify the vandals.
