The idea for the event originated with crafts created by children during summer programming offered by the Hamlet of Enterprise.

"We've been saving all of our crafts and then we decided to show off everything the kids have been doing," said Sandra McMaster, recreation co-ordinator with the hamlet. "And then we decided that there are really lots of people with talent in Enterprise."

So now, all residents of the community are being invited to participate in the fall fair.

McMaster said that will include quilters, beaders and other artists, along with gardeners with their vegetables and other produce.

"We'll be interested to see what everybody will bring," she said, adding the fall fair will also be an advertising opportunity for Enterprise businesses.

The children's crafts, including the most popular pet rocks, will also be on display.

McMaster hopes the fall fair will become an annual event, noting it is a good addition to the community.

"I want there to be more community spirit and bring everybody out and get them doing stuff," she said.

McMaster doesn't really know why there has never before been a fall fair in Enterprise before.

"But I thought it was a great idea and, once I started talking to other people, they thought it was a good idea, too," she said.

Winnie Cadieux, who owns a restaurant and traditional crafts store in Enterprise, welcomes the fall fair to the community.

"I think it's a wonderful idea," she said. "The more things that we can get happening in the community the better for us."

Cadieux hasn't yet determined how she will participate in the fall fair, but said she will probably advertise her business by taking some items from the craft shop and some baking.

The upcoming fall fair was also mentioned at the Aug. 13 meeting of hamlet council by senior administrative officer Peter Groenen, who described it as an exciting initiative that will help build community spirit.

The fall fair, which will be sponsored by the Hamlet of Enterprise, will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 15 in the Enterprise Community Centre.
