Eleven delegates from the Canadian American Business Council (CABC) who stopped in Inuvik on July 11, as part of a five-day policy tour of the Arctic, left "impressed" with the North, said Emma Rigby, executive director of the bilateral business organization.

The briefing, which went from July 8 to 13, was an opportunity for members of the council—including executives of multinationals based in the U.S. and Canada--to learn more about the opportunities and challenges of doing business in the North.

"We organized this trip because Arctic issues are becoming more front and centre in the Canada and U.S., and effect a lot of sectors and industries," Rigby said. "So we put this policy tour together to learn about Northern interests and how companies on both sides of the border can partner with the territory and First Nations groups, and businesses in the territory."

The group was hosted in the NWT by the Department of Industry, Tourism, and Investment. The tour also stopped in Yellowknife, Whitehorse, and Alaska.

The council has about 100 members representing major multinationals that do business across Canadian and U.S. border.
