OTTAWA
Lawbreakers got a surprise May 5 when Iqaluit RCMP officers, bylaw officers, firefighters and the Nunavut liquor inspector combined forces for an enforcement blitz.

The four agencies ran impaired driving check stops, a traffic and drug law enforcement blitz, and inspected local bars for liquor compliance, an RCMP release stated.

As a result, several traffic tickets were issued, one person was charged with impaired driving and two were given 24-hour driving suspensions.

Bars were given warnings for Liquor Act and fire regulation violations, and six people were charged with drug trafficking around Iqaluit businesses, Sgt. Kevin Lewis confirmed.
