According to a report released in February by consulting organization HVS, in 2011, hoteliers in Yellowknife edged out their Whitehorse counterparts when it came to both occupancy and revenue per available room.

Last year, Yellowknife hotels registered an annual average occupancy of 69 per cent, up 10 per cent from the previous year. The average room rate was $150, making the revenue per available room $103.50.

Meanwhile, annual average occupancy in Whitehorse hotels has stagnated at 63 per cent since 2009 and the average room rate in 2011 was $112. In 2011, revenue per available room was $70.56, about $33 below that of Yellowknife.
