A 25-year-old Yellowknife man had the tip of his nose bitten off during a fight outside the Raven Pub in the wee hours of Saturday morning, according to Raven Pub bouncer Dave Beckwith.

"The tip of his nose was gone and he was unconscious, but breathing, and then about 10 to 15 minutes later he started coming to," Beckwith said, adding he did not see a lot of blood.

"He knew where he was, and he was able to answer the ambulance attendants. He was calm when he came to. Like, he knew the situation that was at hand, but I don't think he clued in that the tip of his nose was gone."

In an RCMP news release issued Wednesday, police stated they have 21-year-old Stein Randall Bourque in custody, charged with one count of aggravated assault.

The police received multiple calls about the incident at approximately 12:55 a.m. Saturday.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital. His condition was unknown as of press time.

Beckwith said the fight happened just outside the bar, about a metre from the doors.

He didn't see the beginning of the altercation because he was inside working at the time, he said, but he went out to see what was going on when a female patron informed him a man was on the ground outside the bar.

He said he remembers a crowd of more than 20 people outside the bar staring at the victim, but doesn't remember anybody doing anything.

"Everyone was standing around, smoking cigarettes, and I backed everybody away when I heard the sirens and made some room and then the RCMP showed up and took control of the scene," he said.

As to what sparked the altercation, Beckwith said he has no idea.

He said he never saw the accused but said he is familiar with the victim, who he said frequents the bar nearly every weekend.

RCMP Const. Kathy Law has some advice for people when they are leaving a bar.

"Just go directly home. Take a cab if you've been drinking, or get a ride with a sober friend and go directly home. Don't hang around outside the bar because when people have been drinking everybody's energy is higher and fights can break out then," she said.

Police are asking anybody who may have witnessed the incident to contact them or call Crime Stoppers.
