IQALUIT
Charges are pending after a man fired a high-powered rifle when Iqaluit RCMP responded to a call for service early March 1.

Police were not expecting to be greeted with an armed man when they were called to the Q Unit Block residence at 1:40 a.m. At some time, he fired the gun, but surrendered peacefully to police almost four hours later, an RCMP release stated.

No one was hurt and the investigation surrounding the incident continues.

Police say people calling for assistance should give as many details about an emergency situation, including whether weapons are involved and if the person needs medical attention, which gives them the chance to plan how to approach the situation.
