A man accused of sexually assaulting a woman on 53 Street, then allegedly assaulting a man who came to her aid, has been denied bail for a second time.

Bobby Robert Zoe, 31, is charged with sexual assault, assault with a weapon, uttering death threats, robbery, choking to overcome resistance and breach of probation, stemming from an incident on Jan. 2. Yellowknife Supreme Court Justice Louise Charbonneau heard Zoe's application Monday morning and announced her decision late Monday afternoon.

Zoe spoke softly in court and was, in fact, barely audible. He handed Charbonneau two photos documenting his life growing up in the bush near Gameti. He said he wanted to see his family and make some money before his trial. Crown prosecutor Jill Andrews told court that the Crown had not received any assurances that Zoe would be properly supervised at all times and said he has failed in the past to abide by "promises."

Zoe is due back in court Dec. 13 to set a date for trial.

Fined for missing court

Anthony Griep, accused of a 2008 sexual assault of a woman on the Frame Lake Trail, was in territorial court Tuesday morning to answer to a charge of failing to attend court.

Griep pleaded guilty and said he simply forgot about his Nov. 8 court date. He acknowledged that he did not make enough of an effort to remind himself. Griep was arrested that same day when he went to sign in at the RCMP building - a condition of his bail - and was later released on an undertaking. He was ordered to pay a $300 fine. An additional charge of breach of probation was withdrawn.

Yellowknife doctor's trial date set

A trial date has been agreed upon for a Yellowknife doctor accused of assaulting a woman as well as two counts of failing to comply with the conditions of his probation. Dr. Richard Cunningham is expected to be back in court on Jan. 19 at 9:30 a.m.
