ITK to appeal seal ruling Jeanne Gagnon Northern News Services Published Monday, October 3, 2011
The European General Court dismissed a court challenge launched last year by Canadian and Greenlandic Inuit to annul the EU seal ban regulation, ruling the application as inadmissible in a decision dated Sept. 6.
Inuit leaders attending the ITK annual general meeting in Inuvik, NWT, on Sept. 28 unanimously decided to appeal the decision.
"We fully expect our views on the injustice of the EU legislation to be vindicated," stated ITK president Mary Simon. "Inuit will not rest until the EU courts strike down this unfair and unjust legislation."
