42 lots proposed for Fort Simpson Roxanna Thompson Northern News Services Published Monday, October 3, 2011
Nick Sibbeston came to the village council meeting on Sept. 19 to inform councillors about his development project. Sibbeston has applied to the Department of Municipal and Community Affairs to sub-divide lot 574, a big field near Bannockland, into 42 lots of at least 2,000 square metres each, which will comply with the village's standards for country residential lots. The lots will be available to the public by next spring, he said. Sibbeston plans to build a road and bring electricity into the area. Sibbeston said he hopes to develop the road to a standard acceptable to the village, responsibility for the road would then be transferred to the village. "I think it's a great idea, the need is there," said Mayor Sean Whelly about the new lots. The lots would create more options for private and public housing and will increase the village's tax base, he said. Whelly said his only concern is the road. He said he would like to reach an agreement with Sibbeston that includes timelines and measurable standards for the road.
