South Baffin MLA Fred Schell has joined the ranks of cabinet following a leadership forum at the legislative assembly in Iqaluit on Sept. 28.

As of Friday, when he was officially sworn in, the three-year MLA for Cape Dorset and Kimmirut had not yet been assigned a portfolio, but expects to be given one by Premier Eva Aariak within the next couple of days.

"It's both exciting and a little bit scary. I'm not sure what to expect over there," said Schell. "With only one other person running, I thought it would be interesting to put my name up. I was waiting for other people .A lot of the regular members talked to me, asked me to put my name in."

Nattilik MLA Jeannie Ugyuk, representing Gjoa Haven and Taloyoak, was the only other MLA to put her name forward to join the ranks of cabinet.
